Two films about Virginia Woolf and Daphne du Maurier

In the past weeks I saw two films and only when I finished the last one, I noticeds the silimar subject. Both were films about female authors I like, namely Virginia Woolf and Daphne du Maurier, and both films was about their romantic relationship with a woman. I loved the story of the young orphan Remi who was sold by his mean stepfather when he was ten years old to a musician, Vitalis, who travelled around with Joli-Coeur the little monkey and the dogs Capi, Dolce and Zerbino. Nodoby’s boy is a beautiful story and I read it many times. Only later did I find out this was a world famous French classic, translated into many languages. The story is probably known: Remi is an orphan and that is why he does not belong to anybody. Turner as an inspiration

The painter Turner was ahead of his time and many painters after him were inspired by his work and his style. Two examples make this very clear. The first is the work Scarlet Sunset by Turner that was painted in the years between 1830 and 1840. It is quite small, but very beautiful. When the French painter Monet was in London in 1870 because his country was at war with Germany, he saw this painting and it inspired him to paint this: Impression, soleil levant 1872 (impression of a sunrise) This is the work that made a journalist call Monet and his friends Impressionists as an insult, but the name stuck and it became the name of a powerful and beautiful art-movement, Impressionism . So, perhaps you can say that without Turner, there would have been no Impressionism. The second example is also quite stricking. How I plan my blog

Since I have two blogs, planning for me is essential. I do not think I could keep things organized otherwise. I have a Dutch blog and this blog and on my Dutch blog I have 5 posts every week and over here two to three a week. I bought a dummie and in there I write down everything I need for my blog. Schedules, ideas, to-do lists etc. I usually try to plan a-head for three to four weeks, and have two to three weeks actually written and planned. This is how my six weeks planning for two blogs starts Leading in my planning are the bookreviews on my Dutch blog, because these reviews determine what bookreviews will appear here. Sometimes I have a bookreview on my Dutch blog of a book that has no English translation or it is a book that I do not feel is right for this blog. Then that book does not appear here. The last year of Vincent van Gogh

Last week I made a quick visit to the Vincent van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. There was a small exhibition there about the last 18 months of Vincent's life. In 1888 he went to the Provence, to Arles in the hope other painters would join him there. Only Paul Gaugain came and this was not such a good companion for Vincent. They had different ideas about art and they had a lot of rows. After one of those rows, Vincent sliced of his ear. He was committed to a hospital, but no official diagnoses was given. After two weeks he seemed fit enough to go home again. Stilllife with onions. He painted this when he first got home. Januari 1889 But this was just the beginning for poor Vincent, and he headed into a downward spiral of working too hard, feeling ill and not being able to work.
