New classics

I do not only love books for what is written inside, I also love a good looking edition.

Last week I treated myself to five classics in a new version, and  I think these look amazing. How cute are these!!

Three novels by Jane Austen: Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Emma. I already have a beautiful version of Pride and Prejudice that came out in 1995, along with the wonderful series, but I enjoy this new, Dutch version.
I had a cheap pocketversion of Sense and Sensibility and althought I did read Emma, I did not own a copy.

Also: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.

These are all in Dutch translation. I do read books in English, of course, but I do feel sometimes a little bit of an extra hurdle to pick one up. Sometimes I prefer a translation.

My old version of Jane Eyre is 30 years old, it was the first grown up English classic I bought. I was 15 yo at the time and I can still remember cycling to the citycentre to the bookshop to pick it up. But after 30 years and several re-reads (more than 15 I think) it does look a bit battered. And the translation is quite oldfashioned, since it comes from 1946. This new version has a more modern translation and although the oldfashioned one never bothered me, I do think I will enjoy reading the new version.
