Movies I am looking forward to

I really like films and there are a few films I am looking forward to. One has been finished and will be released soon, the other one is in the early stages of production.

Vita and Virginia (2018)
This is the story of the love affaire between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West. Gemma Atterton plays Vita and Elizabeth Debicki plays Virginia. At first Eva Green would have played Virginia, but she had to pull out.
Elizabeth Debicki as Virginia Woolf and Gemma Atterton as Vita Sackville-West

I always love to read about Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury crowd, or see series/films about them, so I think I will enjoy this.

If I understand it correctly, the film will be released halfway this year.

Rebecca (2019?)
The novel Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier has been made into a film twice before. I have on DVD the miniseries from 1997 with a very young Emilia Fox and Charles Dance as Mrs. and Max de Winter. I love this version, which also has Diana Rigg as Mrs. Danvers and other great actors like Geraldine James as Beatrice and Faye Dunaway as Mrs. Van Hopper!

I also saw the film from 1940 directed by Alfred Hitchcock, with Joan Fontaine and Lawrence Olivier as Mrs. de Winter and Max de Winter, which was also very good.

Now, a new version will be made. I cannot find a lot of information, just the names of the lead characteres. Lily James as Mrs. de Winter and American actor Arnie Hammer as Max de Winter.
I liked Lily James in War and Peace and in Downton Abbey, but I am not convinced about Arnie Hammer. He does not look right for the part.

But perhaps he is an amazing actor who will make a believable Max de Winter. I hope so, since I would like to see a new version of this classic story.

The more Daphne DuMaurier the better!

  1. I didn't know they were filming another version of Rebecca. Lily James is a great choice. As for the others....we'll hope for the best, right? :)

    1. I am excited abou Lily James and yes, hope this Arnie Hammer is a decent actor who can make a good Max de Winter. Let's hope he will surprise us!! (but I am excited about this new version)

      Kind regards,
