New plants added to my urban jungle

I love plants and fortunately my house has a lot of light and most plants seem to like being in my house. In the past weeks I bought a few new plants, to create even more of an Urban Jungle in my house.

I fell for this little terrarium. If things are alright, this should be a self-functioning eco-system, so almost no watering will be necessary. I did spray a little water inside, since the lid came off in the gardening centre, but I hope that will be sufficient. At this moment, the plants inside look green and healthy.

This is in my dining -area, that has a north-facing window, but no window-sill. My solution is this table, that I use for the plants. The plants over here are doing really well and seem to enjoy themselves. It also looks really attractive when I look towards it from my living room.

My living room is south-facing, and I only have one small window-sill. So I use my bookshelves for plants as well. At this moment the plants do really well. At the left you see a very delicate hanging plant (no idea what it is), that I thought was dying, but ended up with new growing leaves and looking healthy.

On the top of the bookcase on the left is a Monstera, that was in my study, but it grows like weed and I realised it needed somewhere to let this all hang. So I decided to move it to here. I hope it will adjust. The Dutch name is Gatenplant, or Hole-plant,  not difficult to see how it got its name!

This table and set-up are very recent (this weekend). I thought I had space next to a large chair for a table with plants. On top are a zz-plant and a peperomia watermelon. These two are really hip, I believe, but I like the contrast between these plants and I like leaves with interesting colours.

The other plant on the table is what we call in Dutch Kindje-op-moeders-schoot, or Child on its mothers lap. I have no idea what the English or Latin name is :-) I love it, although it is a bit temperamental and I do not have the best track-record with these plants. But I am hoping for the best.

  1. The Kindje-op-moeders-schoot is called 'Henne mit Küken' here (hen with chick). The Latin name is Tolmiea menziesii. I had heard the notion 'Tolmie' before, but wasn't sure about the exact name, so I looked that up. Love all your plants - they look healthy and happy, I'd say :-)

    1. Oh, thank you so much for the information! And I love the German name as well, so cute.
I do give my plants a lot of attention, so they better be happy :-) Although I never manage to keep all of them alive, some of them prove to be too hard for me.

      Kind regards,

  2. You do have a lot of plants! I wish I was better at growing things inside, but I do best with hardy perennials that grow out in the yard that can withstand hot weather and benign neglect. :)

    1. Hahaha, I am horrible with my plants on the balcony, it is south facing and I would have to water the plants there 2-3 x per day, and I never manage that. So I begin in good faith, but soon it becomes a little disasterous. I fare better with my house plants :-)

      Kind regards,
